— Pinot Noir
For us Pinot Noir is the wine we believe
will achieve the highest international standard of any
grape variety grown in New Zealand. It is a variety that
has seen little success outside of its much admired “homeland”
Burgundy. It requires a cool climate, intensive vineyard
care and low crops, which is why high quality Pinot Noir
is never mass-produced and never cheap. The choice of
clones and rootstocks is equally important as are vine
spacing, site selection and management. Today we are working
with eleven clones, 4000-5000 vines per hectare and crop
levels of around 5 tonnes/ha or 30-35 hl/ha. Over 50%
of our production is now Pinot Noir, divided into three
separate wines.
Pinot
Noir - La Strada
The La Strada Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from two
vineyards, both situated in the Brancott Valley. Typically
the La Strada is earlier approachable with an appealing
balance of ripe fruit and a slightly rustic/earthy generosity.
La Strada could be described as the winery signature and
this wine is primarily an expression of our style and
vintage. more >>> |
