Fromm Vineyard
This is Fromm’s “home-vineyard” surrounding
the winery. Purchased in 1992 as bare land, it lies in
the heartland of Marlborough’s vineyard area. Planted
on an old river bed its soil can be described as top-soil
over one or two layers of clay underpinned by free-draining
alluvial gravel.
Except for a little Gewürztraminer (le vin du coeur!),
Fromm Vineyard is planted only in red varieties - Pinot
Noir, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec.
The wines from the Fromm vineyard show very specific characters.
This is often described as “terroir”. This
vineyard produces grapes of intense concentration; the
result of the soil type, the unique Marlborough climatic
conditions and the low crop yield, fully physiologically
ripened. The wines exhibit a healthy, firm backbone and
a distinct tannin structure, giving them the longest cellaring
potential in our portfolio. |
